The Northwest Intentional Communities Association offers no endorsement of the communities listed on this page or anywhere in any or our publications. You need to carefully check them outyourself. We do not verify any information communities provide us, we simply publish it as we get it. For more information about finding the right community there are good articles in the Intentional Communities Directory or in Communities Magazine.

Seek Members for Forming Community
Sky Root Community and Farm
WHIDBEY ISLAND , Washington
On 9/7/2011
Our 6-bedroom house sits on 20 acres of prime farmland on south Whidbey Island. The land is mostly rolling pasture, with a view of the Olympics, several acres of old cedar and fir, some wetland, and a year-round creek. Wildlife abounds, yet we are just 6 miles from the ferry and on the free Island Transit bus line.

We are 6 folks ranging in age from 3 to 57, with backgrounds in ecology, farming, international relations, holistic health, early childhood education, and old-time music. Our farmhouse is currently full.

Our long-term vision is a multi-generational co-housing community dedicated to spiritual growth, ecological living, organic farming, and a spirit of generosity and adventure. We are seeking like-minded, emotionally mature collaborators.

The community's founder is Karen Litfin, UW professor of political ecology and author of Ecovillages: Lessons for Sustainable Community (Polity Press, January 2014).

If you sense that our budding community might be for you, please email us. Please tell us a bit about who you are & what you are looking for.
