Our Sacred Place, Tacoma
We are a newly formed group of five families looking to purchase and retrofit a building in downtown Tacoma or the North End neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington. We are looking for five to seven families to join our group. Our core values are to live simply and in harmony with our generous Mother Earth; to celebrate our diversity as a society and within our community; and to be of service to others as a way to achieve personal empowerment and a joyful life. Our vision includes a location that is convenient to public transportation and shops and has a large permaculture garden to provide for much of our food, perhaps chickens and a goat. We are planning to use nonviolent communication (or a similar process) to address tension within the groups, and are seeking ways to provide rental units and/or subsidized mortgages. We plan to purchase in late 2009 and to develop a "sister community" with a nearby intentional community that is farming.
