Island Ecovillage
Victoria, British Columbia,
Canada
(Ecovillage Site Purchase Pending on Core Group Foundation)
Island Ecovillage invites individuals, couples, and families of varying backgrounds to join us in forming. We are an interdependent, diverse, and cooperative group seeking members to actively share a natural, artistic lifestyle and work to achieve common goals together.
As we’re in the forming phase of Island Ecovillage, we seek a small core group of ready and committed individuals with whom to plan the foundation of Island Ecovillage and who have the social, financial, experiential skills (or the willingness to learn them) to develop the core structures and values of Island Ecovillage.
Once the core group has established a foundation, we would then invite members and supporters with the skills and experience to establish off-grid energy systems, natural building, permaculture, organic/biodynamic farming, educational programs and all "handy", hardworking, “hands-on,” visionary folks, to complete Island Ecovillage.
Island Ecovillage plans to create space for an educational center to host year round workshops and small festivals related to local food production, alternative energy, the arts (music, painting, dance, writing), healing (yoga, personal empowerment, meditation, nutrition) and other aspects of sustainable living.
Island Ecovillage will build a cluster of natural homes designed to minimize ecological disturbance and maximize land area and possibilities for sustainable farming, forest regeneration, wildlife habitat restoration, recreational enjoyment, and cooperative living. We will use natural building methods, materials and systems to enable us to eventually live “off-grid.”
Island Ecovillage's plan is to consume food that is produced locally and sustainably. Therefore the onsite farm will supply residents and perhaps surrounding communities, with fresh, naturally grown food.
The location for Island Ecovillage is hoped to be a farm in the Cowichan Valley, located about 100 kilometers from Victoria, British Columbia, in the mid-south of Vancouver Island, which includes:
• sufficient acreage (100+/-) to implement a comprehensive Ecovillage plan and to buffer & protect the land from surrounding development
• good water supply, soil quality and wilderness access
• good proximity to public transportation (bus, ferry, air) and to town
• good schools for children of all ages
• a progressive, sustainably minded population
If this vision speaks to you, please get in touch! :)
We look forward to building and growing our dreams together!
