Established: 1981
Salt Spring Centre of Yoga
Salt Spring Island, British Columbia,
Canada
Inspired by Baba Hari Dass, the Dharma Sara Satsang Society established Salt Spring Centre of Yoga in 1981 as a peaceful, positive environment for teaching and practicing the ideals of Classical Ashtanga Yoga.
MISSION:
To promote a facility for events, retreats, and classes incorporating skills and concepts related to yoga, personal development, and the creative arts; and to support other people and projects whose objectives are in harmony with those of the Centre.
To offer health services to the public, based on the principles of natural healing, yoga, and a vegetarian diet.
To foster an intentional spiritual community – living according to Classical Ashtanga Yoga principles at the Centre, and to promote mutual support activities with interested parties all across the globe.
To develop and maintain agricultural projects based on organic farming methods, and to provide stewardship for the ecology of the Centre property by applying the principles of sustainability and environmental protection.
The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga
fulfills its mission by:
* operating a program facility for workshops and classes in yoga and the creative and healing arts,
* offering natural healing methods, such as Ayurvedic swedan massage and reflexology,
* providing a home to a residential community and the Salt Spring Centre School.
One of our guiding principles is karma yoga, or the performance of our duty with an attitude of selfless service and enthusiasm. The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga's activities also adhere to the ethical principles outlined in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras.
