Mulvey Creek Land Co-operative
Slocan, British Columbia,
Canada
MCLC is situated on 240 acres in the spectacular wilderness of British Columbia. The land has an abundance of potable creek water, over five acres of rich, arable garden or crop lands, magical campgrounds, and forest reserves. Valhalla Park, with its hiking trails and glacial lakes, is our backyard.
We are open to new people, families, children, and new ideas.
Members may purchase four-acre lots that are cooperatively owned according to a Share Purchase Agreement. Rentals are occasionally available to nonmembers.
We are looking for self-directed people able to focus great effort on the task of collectively creating and maintaining strategies for life-support systems; income generation; self-sufficiency in mental, physical, and spiritual health and well-being; and service work in the areas of environmental protection and human rights.
We are open to new land partners willing to share skills in the areas of holistic health, compassionate parenting and child care, and sustainable life-support systems (organic food production, alternative energy, ecovillage and permaculture design, natural building construction, holistic woodlot management, cottage industry).
Being a few dozen kilometers away from world-class hiking creates the potential here for developing a bed and breakfast, campground, and various ecotourism programs.
Some of our members are practicing native spiritual teachings, Marshall Rosenberg's Non-violent Communication Method, Dynamic Governance (based on Sociocracy),and also S.N. Goenka's Vipassana Meditation technique. Some have initiated a communal garden project, the Meadow Garden Garlic Project.
Some of us have created Frogsong Retreat Center, a nonprofit society with the purpose of training youth to create facilities for hosting Frogsong Family Camps. Here, parents, foster parents, and other child-care providers receive training in compassionate child care and parenting skills while children receive training in wilderness skills and empathy for the wilds.
We are five miles from the town of Slocan. We are off-grid and four-wheel-drive accessible during the winter months.
We welcome people with willing energy to focus on communication skills (conflict resolution, mediation, anger management) of all kinds. We need people with a passion for learning to live cooperatively and compassionately. We are interested in sharing sitting and walking meditation and other healing practices and therapeutic arts with our neighbours and also with the rest of the world.
